Congrats Chipmunk and Adios! See you back in Singapore =)

27 th June is a happy day for Mr Alvin Soh, call sign- Chipmunk who had just completed his training in Pensacola and will be going home to embark on his career as a WSO-F16!

Indeed we are very proud of him! Sorry if I sound like your mom haha but I am your social secretary and will be missing you!
After the winging ceremony, we headed down Crabs for dinner, it is a resturant which specialise in CRABS obviously. Nice location, situated on the beach itself with a great sea view. But nothing can beat Melben's Crab beehoon and butter crab...

There is 1 thing Alvin cant miss before going home though...

Time to enjoy my donuts...

Adios Alvin, eat more yummy food for us!

PS: Good luckz with you know what (or rather who!)

For a long time, everytime we went into Joe Patti's, Kenny and I were debate over whether to try the delicious looking tuna...the tuna is so precious in Joe's that only the boss is allowed to cut it.

Anyhow we bought a pound of it home because after reading tons of recipes on Food Network, I think I am ready to try to pan-sear the tuna, 3 mins on 1 side, supposed to be cooked on the outside and raw in the middle to taste the freshness of the tuna.

Heh it turn out to be of a rather weird taste, I cannot find any appropiate to describe the taste, sort of cut tongue feel (like eating semi-unripe pineapples).

Anyway no more tuna...

Up, Up and Away

Hot Air Ballooing
Originally uploaded by linggy

4th Annual Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival

The weather was just horrible-thunderstorm and rain in the afternoon. But we decided to go ahead and try our luck, if the rain do continue, we will go to the outlet mall at Foley (more shopping!)

Nobody goes to Foley (and I meant nobody!) without going for a meal at Lambert' s Cafe- The Only Home of Throwed Rolls.

The breadboy walks around, pushing his cart of hot steaming buns and throw it to anyone who raise their hand and you have to catch it!
Followed by the applebutter boy who will give you a scoop of the thick, sweet and fragant apple butter to go with your bread! See how Alvin is grining with apple butter on his roll.

Lambert's Cafe serves "pass-around" which are small hot dishes to go with your main course. We had fried okra (which is ladies fingers), tomatoes and maraconi, fried onion and potatoes. We were so full with the buns and side dishes, we left our main course untouched. I have yet to see anyone leave Lambert without a take-away box, now I understand why.

Anyhow our pork chop was very juicy and tender even after 6 hours. Yes I am eating alot more pork since I came to America than compared to Singapore where the only pork I would eat is in ba-chor mee.

And the cafe is full of tricks! The servers will walk around with a rodent in the pan and pretend to ask you whether you want some more pass around and throw a fake furry rodent in your face! I also got the "almost fell down waitress with a plate of full of food, I think the food is stick onto the plate hehe) and the tomato sauce bottle which squirt out a red string etc...there are many tricks going-on...all good fun!

By the time we finished lunch, the skies is clearing and we went back for hot air ballooning! We managed to get a free tether ride! Although a mere few minutes, it was awesome! I have to persuade Kenny to bring me for a proper hot air balloon ride soon...

World's greatest recipe book

Just before I left my ex-company, my AWESOME colleagues have complied a book of recipes all tried and tested!

Franklin who is an American from New York, had wriiten a funny and witty preface along with his healthy salads, smoothies and pastas in a bid to help me retain my shape (because he insist if not, I will put on 10kg in no time!)

The book also contain Dilini's yummy fish head curry with alot exotic spices which my cooking level has not reached!

My fave Irene's mummy fried beehoon & curry pok as I like to refer it as opposed to curry puffs.
Not to forget Suyin's famous carrot cup-cakes which I will always eat with fond memories of W & W's wedding (along with the fun, laughter, love and friendship while making the cakes!)

Not to disappoint my darling colleagues' efforts, I already started making use of the book-my 1st recipe is Serena's Piroshkis!
So amazed at myself for getting it right at my 1st attempt, especially since everyone know about my lack of talent in kitchen which reminds me of the apron which Wendy gave for my farewell gift but thats for another story!

A day at Pensacola Beach!

We decided to go down to the beach to see this year Fiesta Sand Sculpture Contest, Love the dog and the froggie!
For those who know me well enough will know I try means and ways to get out of the SUN!
Hence I am the world's most unsuitable person to be living in Florida *evil grin*
Below are some of the pictures taken of the sun, sea and sand.
Also the longest fishing pier in Gulf of Mexico it is a fishing galore, every other minute, they are reeling in their rods with a few fishes, definitely worth the $6.50 to fish on the pier!

News of the week!
Counting down to Irene and Carina coming to USA, cant wait, I am sooo excited.
I have to prepare my wishlist from Singapore- 1st on the list is mosquitoe repellant (electrical type). I came all the way to States to be tormented by these blood-sucking buggers!

Yipppeee...it is Friday

Been wanting to get my hands on Kenny's hair for the longest time, face it, nobody in their right mind will let me cut their hair!

Tada!! The back is abit crooked I must admit and both sides are not exactly even. The front was done by Kenny himself as he just can't trust me to do the job.

"You can do the back which I cant see and wont hurt so much"

Cutting hair cause a big mess, hair is everywhere and they get stick to the floor when it is wet! Very hard to clean up, I asked him to go the barber on the base who charged $7 per haircut and save us the grief instead...

Looking forward to dinner, there is a festival going on in town this evening as well!

May monthsary

30th May 2008, our fifth monthsary (the 2nd one we celebrated since Kenny left for States in early Feb), we went to Skopelos On The Bay which is located on Scenic Highway 98. Out of the window is a beautiful sunset with the different gradients of blue, purple and pink skies.

There was a wedding party going-on hence we could not get a seat outside under the skies, they even do special dinner under full moon which I can just imagine how romantic it will be...awwwww

We started off with baked oysters top with garlic butter (which triggered off my craving for Esmirada's lemon butter mussels during the last fabulous outing with the babes).

My main course was Scamp Cervantes Fresh sautée scamp filet topped with jumbo lump crabmeat which was eaten by President Bush and his wife back in 1992. It is stated in the menu heh but I prefer Kenny's main course!
Kenny had the Broiled Stuffed ShrimpJumbo shrimp filled with crabmeat dressing, served with Remoulade sauce which was yummylicious...

This meal set us back by USD 100, most expensive meal since I came to Pensacola.

Did I mention dessert is served on a tray and you can just choose it off the tray.
Key Lime Pie is THE dessert in Florida it seem, can be found on all menus in all restaurants, Kenny had not tried it as yet so we decided to give it a go.
Not too bad is my verdict but I am missing citron tart from Candele!!

Meanwhile I just received my monthsary present- Victoria secret, no biggies bought yoga pants and 2 dresses =)

Looking forward to June 30th!

Voila! Tom yum steamboat

This is a great idea taken from Minyi (thanks babe!), to use a rice cooker for steam-potting!

All this is done in Alex (his birthday) and Darren (his graduation)'s honor.

It is not so much of steamboat where one leisurely put food inside and cook at own pace, this is the boy's style- just dump as much as possible and close the rice cooker lid.

Voila! 10 mins later, food is ready ( more like yi pin guo- a pot of many flavours)

Carradine even bought liver (I was mystified at the sight of liver haha how did they get their hands on those). But it just doesnt have the 'powdery taste" if you know how fresh liver taste like.

This is the last group photo taken with Darren in
Pensacola!
He is now on his way back Sunny Singapore,
curry chicken,
ba chor mee, etc etc etc!

Ryan's special gift for Alex's birthday

Abalone from Singapore!
See, it is really like Chinese New Year!
